Summary: FAU Harbor Branch, located in Ft. Pierce, is a research
institute focusing on marine science and oceanography with over 200
scientists, staff and students that work and study at the site.
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Programming/Software
Engineer - Fort Pierce, FL.Summary of Responsibilities:
- Working with the principle investigators and other engineers to
define the scope of the project.
- Participation in creation of detailed electronic system
requirements based on hardware functionality, compatibility, and
software algorithm design.
- Developing firmware and software based on design
specifications.
- Working the scientists to refine the systems and algorithm
designs.
- Conducting electronic subsystem testing/troubleshooting in a
laboratory environment.
- Supporting system testing in field environments.
- Overseeing and training junior engineers in the team.FAU

Qualifications:Doctor of Philosophy from an accredited institution
and one year of experience; or a master's degree from an accredited
institution in an appropriate area of specialization and three
years of experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited
institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five years
of experience required.Preferred Qualifications/Skills:Master's
degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and 3
years of engineering experience in firmware and software
development. Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology,
Engineering or Mathematics discipline and 5 years of engineering
experience in firmware and software development.The selected
candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high
expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team
settings across all levels.Demonstrated experience in electronic
system development in one or more of the following areas: embedded
software, electronic schematic design.Experience with design and
development of electro-optical embedded systems.Experience with
electro-optical systems for underwater applications.Experience with
FPGA programming.Background and knowledge of signal and image
processing.Experience and knowledge of optical system design and
testing.Experience and knowledge of digital micromirror device is
highly desirable.Experience and Knowledge of mechanical design is
highly desirable.Previous work experience in a research laboratory
in a similar role is desirable.Excellent communication,
interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with scientists
and other team members.Demonstrated experience in lab testing and
troubleshooting electronic systems.Ability to support multiple
on-going projects in a fast-changing
