Job Description:

Responsible for the ongoing implementation and management of the Lennar Environmental Management System (LEMS).  Coordinate program training and orientation for Lennar associates and monitor and evaluate compliance with company policy.  Interact directly with Division Environmental Managers, legal department, middle and upper level management.


  1. Provide oversight and resources to ensure that the divisions within the region implement the LEMS, which includes storm water policy and guidance, air quality compliance, environmental due diligence, and spill prevention, control and countermeasures modules.
  2. Have working knowledge with the form, content and implementation of Air Quality Regulations, NPDES General Construction Permits and Construction Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, and municipal NPDES requirements as they apply to the region.
  3. Familiar with the wetlands permitting protocols, endangered species regulations as they relate to construction, and Phase I environmental site assessment requirements.
  4. Develop, coordinate, and provide LEMS training for Division Environmental Managers and division associates throughout the region. Training will include procedural and technical aspects of managing compliance related to the LEMS.
  5. Assist Division Presidents in implementing the LEMS on a divisional level. Provide LEMS component direction and guidance to the region’s Division Environmental Managers.
  6. Direct and coordinate LEMS Environmental Management Reviews/Audits for the region in accordance with company policy. Develop and train the environmental management review team, coordinate the audits, interpret findings, assemble and present the results and recommendations to management.
  7. Be proficient in the correct use of Best Management Practices required for air and stormwater quality programs.
  8. Develop and present information to Lennar’s subcontractor’s management personnel to demonstrate Lennar’s expectations for contract compliance with the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP’s) and local stormwater and air quality regulations.
  9. Achieve a consistent quality standard throughout the region in meeting regulatory requirements for dust control and storm water runoff.
  10. Assist General Counsel’s office when legal issues arise related to the LEMS.
  11. Provide assistance and coordinate post construction record retention for LEMS related documents.
  12. Attend training courses and seminars as needed to keep completely up to date on inspection protocols, storm water runoff, air quality, and wetlands permitting issues.
  13. Attend water quality control board and/or air quality management district hearings when the need for representation arises.
  14. Interact and build working relationships with regulatory agencies including local municipalities, state and federal environmental protection agency, local air quality management districts, and state and regional water quality control boards as needed.
  15. Strive to reduce liability of regulatory notices of violation and subsequent future litigation, penalties, and fines.
  16. Timely and accurate reporting to corporate, regional and division level management.
  17. Communicate and interpret information from regulatory reports and technical data with Regional President, Regional Vice-President and Division Presidents.
  18. Create a sense of pride of quality workmanship, service and delivering the American dream of secure and quality homeownership.
  19. Perform all other duties as assigned.


  • Four (4) years minimum experience with soils and/or erosion control
  • College degree in agriculture, civil or environmental management/engineering, geology, geography, soil science, natural resource management or a related field is preferred. Previous work experience will be considered
  • Strong understanding of construction practices desired
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations relating to the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and air quality regulations are required
  • Prefer Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) or individual who is qualified to take the exam
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills
  • Professional and positive attitude is required to interact with all division personnel and/or regulatory agencies
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Travel will be required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, read building plans, climb stairs, bend stoop, reach, travel on uneven and unpaved surfaces, lift, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 50 pounds.  Finger dexterity will be required to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.  Air and vehicular travel and overnight stays will be required.
