Position Summary:
The mission of the Design and Construction Services Department is to provide the faculty, students, and staff of the Florida Atlantic University with the best possible environment for their teaching, research, public service, and support activities while preserving for future generations landmarks important to the University's traditions and heritage. We do this by planning and managing the design, construction, demolition, remodeling and renovation of facilities, and the acquisition/disposal of real estate.
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Project Manager - Boca Raton, FL.
Summary of Responsibilities include:



  • Manage one or more major and minor construction, remodeling, and/or renovation projects in accordance with Facilities Management policies and procedures.


  • Coordinate the work done by architects, engineers, and contractors for projects and ensure all work conforms to specifications. On assigned projects the position will coordinate the bid and award process, hold appropriate conferences and progress meetings, review change orders and architect and contractor payment requests, review construction schedules, coordinate with potential occupants, assist with furnishings and equipment purchases, and coordinates inspections for occupancy of the facility.


  • Review documents for compliance with the approved programs and with applicable codes by consulting with other state agencies. This includes appropriate personnel in Facilities Management, the Fire Marshal, Public Safety Department.


  • Provide the University with an in-house architectural design and code review capability.


  • Provide planning, design, and consulting services to the University Faculty and Staff.


  • Assist and advise facilities planning committees if requested.


  • Participate in the selection of design professionals for major projects if requested.


  • Represent the Facilities Management Department with respect to interface and coordination of projects with other University Staff or Faculty. This also includes scheduling any interruptions of utilities, water, power, roads, and parking, with affected departments caused by construction of the projects.


  • Demonstrates clear understanding of legal implications for actions concerning agreements between the University and Architects, Engineers, Contractors, or Construction Managers.


  • Provides interpretations of the building code and life safety code for the department on assigned projects.


  • Determines design solutions for construction projects, and coordinates review and approval with the State Fire Marshal and other University Departments.


  • Reviews design work performed under the supervision of outside architects or engineers.


  • Prepares reports to senior administrative levels on all aspects of assigned projects.


  • Meets with University Faculty and Staff as required. Occasionally meets with persons outside the University and Utilities Department representatives.


  • Reviews and approves payments to architects and contractors on projects that may reach $50 million.


  • Review and approves addenda, change orders, and field orders within designated contingency levels. May be subject to disciplinary action when gross negligence is determined.


  • Responsible for information concerning design and construction projects that may involve proprietary products and methods or that may result in legal proceedings and/or claims.


  • Frequent contact with information pertaining to u niversity operations and programs as well as the University finances related to capital projects.


  • Essential duties are somewhat varied and guided by standard practices and procedures.


  • Resolves routine problems as they arise or recommends how problems can be resolved.


  • Exercises some independent judgment in following established procedures where alternatives are limited.

      Minimum Qualifications:
      Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Architectural Engineering and two years of appropriate experience required.
      Preferred Qualifications:
      2 to 4 years of appropriate experience preferred.
      Salary:
      $70,000 - $80,000 per year.
