Job Description:
The Director of Logistics is the subject matter expert for the
company and part of the Supply Chain Operations leadership team.
The Director of Logistics oversees, directs and performs critical
functions relating to the timely and efficient movement of goods in
support of Hollander business. This includes inbound delivery of
raw materials to Hollander's manufacturing facilities, drop
shipments to customers, intercompany truck shipments (FTL/LTL), and
parcel contracts for ecommerce and internal requirements. The
source of inbound shipments of raw materials is currently located
throughout the world, primarily in Asia, Europe and North America
and outbound shipments to customers are primarily routed through
customer carrier agreements to destinations in the US, Canada, and
Mexico. Evaluating cost and performance of our third-party
providers is paramount given the impact on company financials and
customer service.The Director of Logistics must provide thoughtful
leadership and drive strategic initiatives to support overall
Hollander and Supply Chain objectives and strategies. ESSENTIAL
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transportation management:o Formulate and socialize a holistic
Logistics strategy, targeted at optimizing cost, service, &
flexibilityo Manage freight lanes with traceabilityo Optimize mode
/ routes for lead time and costo Ensure delivery meets business and
regulatory requirementso Develop and maintain dashboards for timely
reporting of KPIs
- Up to date on changes in trade laws, tariffs and related risks
& opportunities, and develops strategies to leverage international
trade programs:o Collaborate with Sourcing to maintain total cost
modelso Manage customers' requests for assistance with free trade
agreements such as NAFTA and CAFTA
- Maintain procedures to ensure compliance with Customs and
related regulatory requirements
- Manage product classifications (HTS) database, both US and
Canada; add new items and review regularly all existing
classifications.
- Logistics sourcing and cost management:o Negotiate and maintain
competitive costs for all elements of logistics required (inbound
and outbound) including ocean, trucking, drayage rail, and air
shipmentso Manage service providers against contractual terms and
business needs to support a predictable and efficient environment
(e.g. optimize moves at contracted rates vs spot market across
carriers and NVOCCs, visibility to freight moves, timely & accurate
cost projections & invoicing)o Work with Sourcing and Materials
Management teams to route shipments as needed outside "standard"
flow (air, expedited ocean, land bridge, team drivers, & others)o
Manage contracting processo In collaboration with Finance, maintain
weekly logistics cash flow outlook and budget vs actual
transportation spend with regular (monthly) reporting
- Supplier performance and compliance
- Oversee supplier operational and cost metrics and conduct
business reviews
- Coach and develop staff REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong business acumen including demonstrated understanding of
link between Logistics and company financial reporting and results
(budgeting, cash flow tracking, KPI reporting)
- Logistics subject matter expertise and relationship with a
network of service providers o Freight optimization (cost & lead
time including container selection, utilization, & routing)o
Carriers, NVOCCs, logistics service provider sourcing,
transportation management, customs & trade compliance (experience
with Foreign Trade Zones is a plus but not required)o ERP (Oracle
preferred), order mgmt., and related systems o Vendor management
- Strong communication, interpersonal interaction, and
collaboration skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint, executive level reporting, and cross functional
coordination & collaboration.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering against operational
targets and agility to respond to changes in the market (e.g.
capacity, cost, service, changes in trade lanes & customs
requirements)
- Experience operating in a growing, fast-paced, results-oriented
environment
- Problem-solving leadership and analytical thinking that
contributes to continuous improvement
- Track record of building teams & productive relations (internal
& external) and influencing and energizing others to deliver
targeted outcomesSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Logistics Manager,
Logistics Analyst and related support staff with indirect
supervisory interaction with resources in China, India, Pakistan,
or elsewhere as the business evolves. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Four-year degree in related field plus at least five years in a
logistics management role. Working knowledge of Oracle is a strong
plus. Experience with contract formation and negotiations across
all freight modes & logistics services. Must possess an awareness
of strategic and related global procurement issues.
